unique atmosphere and learning from each other The goal is not so much to produce a fantastic studio album As an outcome some music jammers will form a band after the jam others simply learned new ways of playing music A design jam is very similar Design professionals students and people interested in the topic come together to work on a challenge for 48 hours Even though the jam will be based on a user centered design approach there are no set rules on how to solve the challenge The final outcome can be a scenario for a service concept a physical prototype for a product a movie and so on Why should I join The great thing about the jam is that there are no boundaries Design professionals will be able to try new methods and tools that they might not be able to use in day to day client projects Students will learn more about the design process and respective methods and design newbees will get a glimpse at what user centered design is all about What happens with the ideas and concepts at the end At the end of the jam the prototypes will be presented to the public and a short documentation will be uploaded to a global platform All concepts and ideas are published under the creative commons licensing and owned by their creators 10 comments Fiona McDermott says Jan 28 2013 Reply I would like to join Martin Jordan says Jan 28 2013 Reply Sure Fiona you will find a registration form on this page next week please stay tuned Johannes Wrubel says Jan 28 2013 Reply Hey Crew The date in the first line still says 2012 For sure we gonna party like it s 1999 but Katrin Dribbisch says Jan 29 2013

tool for the research phase We have no clue what you have hidden in your treasure chest but feel free to bring it with you if you think it s handy for the process Digital equipment Although the jam will take place at IXDS at a well equipped office space we will be able to use just some of their digital equipment therefore every participant should arrive with her his favourite gadgets in the backpack You think you could need a video camera Bring it with you You would like to make qualitative user interviews on the street Please don t forget a voice recorder You already think about creating a digital service Then take your iPad or MacBook with you to build quick wireframes So it s up to you how you will work and with what kind of tools It would be useful to have a computer and camera on hand for each team but we are quite sure you will sort this out quickly You have your checklist written and hanging on post its on the wall next to you And your rucksack is sitting packed in the corner You think you re ready for the jam Great but well there might be some more useful things to bring along Here s what and why Prototyping tools Fail early fail cheap is one of the best advices for any design process Therefore rapid prototyping is the best way to communicate ideas to others and interact with potential users quickly as well as to iterate continuously Since we will have only few basics waiting at our location it would be great to add whatever is useful for you Coloured paper glue stickies foam board cloth you name it There will be a big box waiting at the entrance
